Cadillac prices Escalade Hybrid at $71k

Ok, let’s see a show of hands for those of us who saw this coming. The term “hybrid” is certainly a buzzword, and despite the fact that Hollywood’s A-list has turned the Prius from a laughable “toy car” to a trendy accessory, they’re still a positive step towards an independence from fossil fuels. Right?

Well, that is starting to change as giant SUVs are now getting the hybrid badge. A perfect example of that is the new Cadillac Escalade Hybrid, priced at $71,685. that is a $3600 leap

above the regularly-fueled, comparably-equipped behemoth, but more than $15,000 more than the base model. The real kicker here though is the fact that the hybrid model will get 20/21 mpg (city/highway), while the regular model gets 12/18 mpg. Seriously? A difference of only 3 miles per gallon on the highway? I guess the name “hybrid” does mean more to some than its actual relevance to the environment.
