Detroit: Ferrari Discovers Ethanol… And 10 additional HP

Even Ferrari is jumping on the green boat. Don’t distress, you’re not going to see any sissified four-cylinder Italian stallions out there that can barely crack 150mph. CEO Luca Cordero made it very clear that though the company is serious about reducing emissions, Ferrari is not interested in sacrificing one lick of performance. While the re-tooled V8 in the BioFuel-
emblazoned F430 cuts greenhouse gas emissions by

5-percent, it plus gets a 10-horsepower boost. We’ll let you know whether we find out how they did it, but the smart money is on an increase in compression ratio to take advantage of ethanol’s inherently higher octane level.
