Heavy Snow in China Strands Thousands

You wouldn’t expect it to snow in central China (where summer weather is by 90° F), but it’s snowing! Some 150,000 passengers were stranded nowadays after heavy snow cut capability to hundreds of trains traveling on the Guangzhou - Beijing trunk line. that is the worst day to have rail delays, since millions of Chinese are traveling domestic for the Chun Jie Spring Festival (Lunar New Year). final year, the railway carried 156 million passengers during the Spring Holiday. Expressways are closed and flights are being delayed due to the heavy snow and rain. Trains are taking alternative routes to bypass the affected areas and diesel locomotives are being dispatched to move the stuck trains. that is the worst snow in China’s

central provinces in 50 years and Xinhua News agency reports that more than 23,000 houses and 650,000 hectares of crops have been damaged in Hubei Province: an economic loss of 2.79 billion yuan ($385 million US) in that region. Some 10,000 railway workers are working to restore potential to the stranded trains, and to resume rail service to the millions of holiday travelers.
