Almost 10,000 Americans die in rollover crashes every year, yet the regulations for roof strength haven’t changed since 1971. nowadays the NHTSA put a new proposal on the table. In all likelihood, it won’t save many lives and it will only anger automakers and safety advocates alike.
The current standard requires a vehicle to resist one and a half times its weight on one side of the vehicle. The new proposal requires it to resist two and a half times its weight on both sides of the vehicle.
