The 95, er, 70 MPG Aerocivic is Back With Video

Remember the guy who used 400 bucks worth of plastic and aluminum to turn his Honda Civic into a streamlined 70 mpg wonder? His local TV station recently profiled him and we thought you’d like to see the video.

There’s no two ways about it - the Aerocivic is still as ugly as it was when we first told you about it. But with gas approaching $4 a gallon, Mike Turner could not care less. He commutes 54 miles each way to his job as an electronics technician, so his only interest is maximizing efficiency.

Turner gave us a detailed run-down on the modifications in January, but whether you want

the Cliff Note’s version, the biggest additons are smooth hubcaps, wheel skirts, a rounded nose and a boattail that gives the car its, er, distinctive look. Combined with some hypermiling techniques, Turner has raised his fuel economy from an already impressive 43 mpg to an average of 70 or so and cut his gasoline costs in half. He’s gotten as high as 95 mpg, but only on flat roads at speeds amoung 30 and 65 mph.
